I Take Lots of Pictures

Today was spent trying to entertain Maya on her 3rd day confined to the house with a cold. She's feeling much better but her cough and runny nose are rather unappealing. Tonight I pulled out an old camera and she had a blast running around taking pictures and saying "I takes lots of pictures!" She even took a funny video of Cally BUT it's mostly upside down and I didn't want anyone to get sick watching it. Here is one pic she took of me, one of Owen and one of herself.

Swim

This summer we signed Maya up for a parent/toddler swim class to have something regular to do with just her while I was super preggo and while we had a newborn in the house. She has LOVED the classes! She even had a few 'private' lessons...OK so for 3 weeks we were the only ones there and Chris was horrified in the pool by himself and the teacher BUT we realized afterward how much Maya learned in those weeks. Here are a few pics of their fun! By the way, Maya looks so cute in the middle picture, I had to post it but Chris really NEVER looked this annoyed.

"Happy Birthday!"

Recently Maya discovered Halloween... we went to Target for our almost daily trip (I live way too close...) anyway, while we were there, the employees were putting together the Halloween displays so we took a trip through the costumes to check them out. She wanted to know what Halloween was so Chris explained that we dress up in costumes and go to parties and go trick-or-treating. SO she wanted to know what trick-or-treating was. He told her that we go to people's houses, like our neighbor Jody's house, and knock on the door and say 'Trick or Treat' and the person who opens the door gives you something like candy or a sticker. That satisfied her and she didn't ask anything else. The next day she looked at Chris and said "I go to Jody's and go 'knock knock' and say 'Happy Birthday!". So, she got it, sort of! I'm pretty sure she was just wanting to scout out some candy.

Owen

So the little guy doesn't do nearly as much as his big sister so he is lacking press here. In exchange, I decided I'd post a few pics of the gorgeous guy! As well as one of him still in my belly!

'It's Not Scary'

Today we met our friends Lora, Addie and Brodie at the Thumbnail Theater to watch Cindi Soup perform (basically a puppet, music, dance, sing-along, play performance). Now, the Thumbnail Theater is a remodeled church so it has a different feel in the auditorium than most places. We walked in and saw an amazing backdrop/stage set and Maya got about half way down the aisle and said 'it's not scary'....Translation 'yes, it's scary and I'm not going anywhere near it'. It took a few minutes and we got as far as the second row and that was all the closer she was going to get...so we sat. HOWEVER, just a few minutes into the performance and she was answering questions and trying to sing-along and then decided, after we had been up dancing, that we could sit in the front row. Of course, then I couldn't keep her off the stage and she participated 4 times, dancing and singing on the stage. Tooooooo cute! Too bad my camera is broken.... She and Addie had a great time dancing and singing. We came home and Maya immediately took one of the alligators off of Owen's swing in order to sing the alligator song we learned (then I caught her trying to feed it butter, whipping cream and a diet cherry coke in the kitchen). I love watching her process everything around her and figure out what she really thinks of it all. Six months ago there is no way she would have participated on stage in front of so many people. She even let Cindi Soup hold her hand (those of you that know her well, know she has space issues and only recently has decided to let people other than mommy, daddy and grandma hold her hand). Today, I saw some of those nervous hand movements she does (thank goodness she stopped chewing on her hands when she is nervous!) but she had a blast. Owen...well he slept which is always a good thing too. Now if only I can figure out how to get him to sleep 8 hours again...

Where is my prince?

Yesterday when we got home from our play date there was a large package from Disney waiting on our porch which contained Maya's costume for Halloween. She chose to be Snow White and we were eagerly waiting for the box to come. Maya couldn't wait to try it on! With glitter everywhere, she spun around our living room ecstatic about her dress. She couldn't wait to show Chris when he got home. After her nap, her first question was, where is my Snow White? Once again, with glitter flying all over my living room she spun around to show her daddy her new costume then stopped dead in her tracks and asked, 'where's my prince.' Gosh, I love that girl! On the other hand, the fact that she was seeking a male companion at 2 1/2 scares the bejeezes out of me!

the title

So here it is, my blog. Who knew ?!?! I just wanted to make a quick note about my title. It's a line from a Dixie Chicks' song called Lullaby. When I was still rocking Maya to sleep I used to sing that song over and over and over. I just love that line and the one that reads 'How long do you want to be loved? Is forever enough, is forever enough?" I even laid in bed with Maya a few nights ago when she woke up frantic and sang it to her until she was snoring. I think it will always remind me of those sweet cuddly moments rocking her...you know those ones just after they have fallen asleep and you can hear their little snore and feel them cuddle in for the night.
