Happy Tears

We took Maya and Owen to the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe to partake of some fried foods, see some animals and try out the kiddo rides. We really doubted Maya would sit still on a ride all by herself...we were so wrong. Maya wanted to go on the car ride and both Chris and I were extremely nervous watching the kids on the ride; standing there waiting, however, Maya enthusiastically picked out the pink car for her ride. Chris walked her on to strap her in and Maya had a blast. I teared up watching my baby go on a ride all by herself because it reminded me that she will grow up and not need me as much. On the days I have frazzled nerves from tantrums I think of this. Not only will this time pass, but it will move on to days when she will no longer fit so snug in my lap and will no longer choose me as her favorite playmate. For the record, I cried typing this.

CSI Toddler...

The Date: August 25, 2009

Location: Living Room
Crime: Excessive use of rice & pancake mix

I had this crazy idea that I would let Maya have some 'freedom' during my shower. Previously she had watched a movie or cartoon on the portable DVD player in my bedroom. However, since Owen's birth she had started playing by herself better from time to time and would ask me to stay and play where she was when I went up to shower. It worked well....for about 3 days. I would check on her 3 or 4 times during the 20 minutes and never had she been doing anything but playing. On August 25th, I checked on her the 3 or 4 times I usually did and then finished and went down to join her (she had been playing with My Little Ponies)....only to see flower all over the back of the couch. I walked into the living room and there she was....my little rice angel...rolling (yes, she really was rolling) in the rice on the floor. She had also put handfuls of pancake mix all over the couch, loveseat, coffee table and end table. What the heck!!!!! When I asked her what she was doing she said 'playing'. She sat in her time out while I started cleaning up and pulled myself back together...what a stinker. Of course, I got a few pictures. She talked about it for days after. FYI: an entire bag of pancake mix and 3/4 bag of rice WILL clog your vacuum. Oh, and she ONLY sits in my room during my shower.

Birthday Pony Cake

In the days leading up to Chris' birthday I kept telling Maya that it was going to be daddy's birthday on Thursday and that we were going to have a little party with the 4 of us. She insisted that daddy wanted a pony cake. We kept telling her that the person whose birthday it is gets to choose what kind of cake they want. Come Thursday...Maya is sick with 102 degree temperature. Chris did, however, get to stay home from work on his birthday but it was only to keep our 2 week old away from our 2 1/2 year old. In the end, I went out that morning to get Chris a cake and ran by Target to get some My Little Pony decorations for the cake (Chris insisted). So, maybe this is more about my husband than my kids. If you look at the picture of Chris and Maya looking at the cake you'll see that he not only has a pony cake BUT that he also forgot to take off the necklace he was wearing while playing dress up with Maya. I love that guy!
