Strollering

Maya decided she would push Owen around in her doll stroller. She would push him as fast as she could across the room and he would laugh and laugh. Owen even tried to push Maya...but he didn't get far. Of course, all good things must come to an end especially when the stroller breaks. Oops!

Lil' Momma

Maya was trying to figure out how to carry both her of babies around when she couldn't fit them both in to the stroller so she could take them for a walk. I fashioned a 'sling' out of a blanket which she thought was awesome!

Jumping Beans

Maya is a jumper...she jumps off virtually anything that she can get on (whether or not she is supposed to). She takes lots of spills doing it and acquires all sorts of new bruises from the activity. Of course, Owen is Maya's parrot and decided a few weeks ago that he could jump too. Of course he can't even get himself up off the floor though he throws his hands up and gets excited to 'jump' (i.e. stand up straight quickly). However, about a week ago he learned he could propel himself off of things up off of the ground, which is much more similar to jumping! Thankfully he doesn't take nearly the number of spills his sister does. Here he is today, jumping off one of the kids chairs onto the dog bed. At least he chose a soft landing today!

Disney On Ice

Tonight Maya and I went on a little 'girls night out' with a group of 17 girlies, 1toddler boy and 1 infant boy to see Disney on Ice Celebrations! Maya was so excited. On Monday we saw a commercial on TV and Maya told me she wanted to go. So, I told her ok. She just about flipped! I hadn't really mentioned we had tickets before, ha ha. Our night started off with a walk through all the very overpriced merchandise where we settled on some cotton candy and water.

Our friends joined us and the show started with some of our favorite characters: Alice & the Mad Hatter, Mickey & Minnie, Ariel & Prince Eric, etc. Maya was in awe! It was also nice that the show was completely different than last year not to mention that it seemed to have better choreographed skating and fewer 'skits.'

During the intermission I tried to get a few group pictures...very unsuccessfully! I did get a pretty cute picture of Maya, however.

For the second half of the show we had played musical chairs and Maya, Charissa, Sarah and Avery shared two chairs. They were incredibly engrossed in the show and Charissa got caught up in cheering on the skaters!

As the celebrations came to a close, we saw Goofy dressed as Santa and 'snow' falling from the skies thanks to Tinkerbell! Maya had a great time and couldn't wait to get home and show daddy all the pictures we took. I had a great time to; nothing like making awesome memories with my best girl!

Death

Last spring we had two big events, my grandfather (old grandpa) died as did our goldfish. Maya had not spent a significant amount of time with her great grandfather but enough to need to be told about the event. It was definitely a little confusing. Shortly after, our fish died and Maya helped me flush him. Another confusing moment. Fast forward.

We have talked about death off and on the past 6 months. Maya asks questions and mostly I answer them very truthfully. It did, however, make me realize that I need to be very cautious of even news stories on tv when she is in the room because it ignites the questions again.

This past Tuesday, my grandma (Maya's GG) had knee replacement surgery. I told Maya about GG being at the hospital and we talked about her knee being 'broken' and her needing a special new one the doctors made for her. Maya decided to draw her a picture of her 'new crazy knee' so we made it into a card and added some words and a few stickers (ok A LOT of stickers). Owen even drew on some paper and put some stickers on a card for GG. Maya insisted she wanted to go to the hospital but I wasn't so sure. In the end, Chris and I decided it was OK. I explained what we would see and hear fairly thoroughly. We stopped and got some flowers and a balloon on our way.

Of course, by the time we got there GG had been given some medicine to help her sleep and was very sleepy but she did wake for a few minutes to say hi to us. Maya was a smidge quiet but overall she took it all in stride and was excited that GG was happy about her cards and flowers. On our way out to the car she asked about GG's IV in her hand so we talked a little about it but she remembered mine from the hospital so it was easily explained.

Then...on our way to preschool on Thursday Maya asked me, "Mommy, is GG dying." Ooops. Ok, back for more explaining! Thankfully GG is home tonight healing so now I think Maya has set that idea aside.
